I need to replace/repair it for my dashcam and air pump, but I can’t find any good guides online. It seems that getting the old one out is different on every car, and nobody has made a guide for changing one in an Escort. So, I’m going to go to Pull-A-Part soon and probably ruin two or three sockets before I teach myself the correct way to remove one.
So the important question is this: how do I know which ones are still working?
And also, do you think I can just fix mine? I twisted my dashcam’s plug because it was blocking the radio buttons, and then there was a big click and now nothing is getting power through the socket. They also have a lot of wiggle when plugged in, which has never happened before. So I think I may have knocked the whole socket loose inside of itself or something. Is that a thing that can happen?

1) you sure it’s not just a broken fuse?
2) you won’t know until you try it. Bring your own car battery and a lighter plug or a phone charger to test it on the junkyard cars? A small lawnmower/jet ski battery should be sufficient enough to test the lighter socket
3) I LIKE BIG CLICKS AND I CANNOT LIE..... wait, huh?

I haven’t checked the fuse yet, actually. I’m just frustrated that there’s no universal way to remove what should be a universal part.

They are usually a real bitch to get out. Most are just bent around whatever plastic piece they are in. The socket itself is just a metal piece with two points of contact (most of the time). If there is nothing wrong with the socket I would check everything in between. You could just find a good place to hard wire your accessories.
